When your customer uses their checking account to pay for goods or services, the Automated Clearing House (ACH) network processes the payment. If the ACH can’t collect funds from the customer’s bank, it responds with a return code to let you know what the problem was. Transactions that receive a return code are called ACH returns.
Important: If you receive an ACH return, make sure you confirm what the return code means. Depending on the return code, you may need to run the transaction again or ask your customer for an alternative method of payment.
