Do I need to collect signatures for all EMV transactions?

No. Many of the major US card brands no longer require customers to sign an electronic receipt when they use an EMV card to purchase goods or services. If you accept EMV cards, you can process most transactions without a signature. This change is optional, so you can continue to collect signatures for EMV transactions if you want to.

Why did the card brands change their requirements?

For EMV enabled merchants, signatures do not provide any extra security from fraud, so many card brands no longer require these merchants to collect them.

How does this benefit me?

When you remove the signature step from a transaction you simplify the checkout experience for your customers and employees, and you can reduce the cost of storing electronic signatures.
